Payroll and compliance manager

As Payroll and Compliance Manager, you will play a key supporting role across our Finance and People teams. Reporting into the Head of Finance, you will be responsible for defining and managing the payroll process across both Head Office and stores. You will use your expertise to advise and guide employees on all payroll matters.

You are an experienced and knowledgeable Payroll Manager that has expertise in process and legislation around pay.

You have brilliant attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in your work.

You have strong knowledge of PAYE and understanding of HMRC benefits.

You have experience of working with 3rd party payroll providers.

You are resilient, adaptable and can effectively navigate through both anticipated and unexpected changes.

You are great at communicating. relationship-building and managing expectations.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Defining & managing the payroll process across both store and Head Office payrolls, responsible for the payroll process across both UK and Irish teams
  • Driving operational best practice to ensure deadlines are met with the 3rd party payroll provider
  • Raising risks, issues and discrepancies in good time and work to find resolutions
  • Up-to-date on all relevant legislation, suggesting changes to processes where appropriate
  • Helping to deliver the Payroll transformation project, playing a key role in defining the requirements for our new payroll provider and being instrumental in transitioning and implementing the new system, ensuring there is minimal disruption for our teams
  • Implementing checks for the payroll calculations (including Tax, NI, SSP, SMP) to ensure there is an accurate output from the 3rd party payroll provider
  • Ensuring accurate and timely submissions to HMRC
  • Ensuring compliance with monthly HMRC obligations and annual requirements such as P11d’s and PSA submissions
  • Being the first point of contact for payroll queries for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Acting as the key point of contact for the Group internal audit team and the external audit team, assisting them with queries and driving best practice
  • Managing the reconciliation of key payroll data – between payroll, benefits and third parties, including HMRC and Rewards and Benefits providers
  • Managing the administration for Company benefits schemes e.g. Cycle to Work
  • Managing Gender pay gap reporting and support preparation for any future developments in pay gap reporting
  • Supporting the brand to continuously improve and develop by helping to drive efficiencies and suggesting innovations in the way we work
  • Always having a customer service focus, able to understand the requirements of the role across the team/s and adding value
  • Delivering accurate reconciliation and data analysis to support reporting, decision-making and providing relevant insights for all key teams and stakeholders
  • Supporting ad-hoc project activity both within your own area of expertise and beyond
