FIVE TIPS TO REFRESH YOUR BEDROOM BY KATE WATSON-SMYTH
Here Kate gives us her five top tips to refresh your bedroom for the new season.
1.If you’re fed up with moving those artfully arranged cushions every night before you get into bed, then buy pillow cases in different, but tonal, colours and get them to multi-task as head rest and décor. Plus you’ll get to bed sooner as you won’t have to move all those cushions.
2.Nothing says stylish bedroom more than layered bedding. Throw out the matchy matchy sets and introduce layers of colour and pattern from the bottom sheet up to the throw.
3.Save space on the bedside tables by hanging your lights from the ceiling either side of the bed. You can do this by buying a multi outlet ceiling rose and wiring in two lights to that central pendant. Buy extra-long flex and drape it across the ceiling to a hook directly where you want the light to hang down.
4.Good bedside tables are notoriously difficult to find. Vintage is usually best – old school lockers or stools which will force you to be tidy as there’s no storage space. Or just put a lamp on top of that pile of books that you’re never going to get round to reading.
5.The bedroom is the perfect place for a feature wall. Use some dramatic paper or paint behind the bedhead – that way you will see it when you come in but it won’t distract you when you are trying to sleep. For real drama paint a stripe the width of the bed up the wall and over the ceiling to resemble a canopy.
