Face Mask with Clay & Camomile tea

For many of us September marks the start of the year – when the summer months are over and it’s time to get back to work and routine.

This makes it all the more important to take some time for yourself to pamper and unwind. Give your skin a beauty boost and snuggle down with a cuppa.

Use this soothing clay-based mask to perk up dry or mature skin. ESP Organic SafeEmuls SCA and Emulsifying was BP are excellent emulsifiers for making oil-into-water creams and lotions without the need for specialized mixers.

Clay Mask Step 1

 

INGREDIENTS

10g (¼oz) kaolin (white clay)
or green clay
35ml (2¼ tbsp) camomile tea;
40ml (2¾ tbsp) if using
Emulsifying Wax BP
10g (¼oz) ESP Organic SafeEmuls
SCA or 5g (1 tsp) Emulsifying
Wax BP
10ml (2 tsp) olive oil
4ml (¾ tsp) glycerine
5 drops camomile essential oil
in dilution
10 drops grapefruit seed extract
(as a preservative)

Clay Mask Step 2

 

STEP 1

Put the clay in a small heatproof dish and place for 30 minutes in the oven at 100-120 degrees Celsius to ensure that the powder is sterilised.

STEP 2

Make the camomile tea as per the instructions on the packet, and infuse for at least 10 minutes in a teapot. Strain once infused and set the liquid aside.

STEP 3

Weigh the ESP Organic SafeEmuls SCA (or Emulsifying Wax BP), olive oil and glycerine into a heatproof jug; mix with the camomile tea. Place in a pan of simmering water and hear to 70-80 degrees.

STEP 4

Remove from the heat after 30 minutes and cool to around 40-50 degrees, then add the clay, camomile oil and preservative. Mix Until smooth, then pour into a sterilized, airtight jar.

HOW TO APPLY
Apply to clean skin, avoiding the eyes, and leave for 5-10 minutes. Rinse with water.

SAFE STORAGE
Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Keeps for up to 3 months.
