We’re lucky to have talented in-house print designers that, season after season, artfully combine the colours, motifs and patterns we all want to wear. To celebrate the launch of our spring collection, we’ve decided to take you with us behind the scenes as we dig a little deeper into our designers’ process and inspiration for the Gemma print, one of the key patterns in our spring catalogue.

“For Spring Summer 2019, we wanted to create something inspired by Aztec shapes to embrace the ethnic trend.” Sophie Tomlinson, Senior Print Designer

“I began the design process by looking at both my favourite geometric shapes and the Aztec patterns of the moment. From this, I painted shapes and patterns mixing scale and brush stroke techniques, before manipulating these hand-painted motifs into a repeating design.” Emily Rowland, Design Assistant

“Once we’d chosen our favourite, we trialled various exotic colourways, which were sent to suppliers to be printed on different fabrics. The final Gemma print design was used in both fresh blue and warm yellow tones on several beautiful boho silhouettes.” Sophie Tomlinson, Senior Print Designer

Bright yet delicate, geometric but hand-drawn, the resulting Gemma print is a lovely way to inject your day-to-day outfits with a holiday feel. Try one of our loose-fitting bohemian tops with shorts and denim, or go head-to-toe with our easy, rope-belted jumpsuit.
