As the days get longer again, and we can finally see summer at the end of the tunnel (so to speak), many of us might start considering a detox in preparation for long awaited beach holidays, sun dresses and bare legs. So, this month I’m talking about a detox your body will thank you for; it’s all about gentle changes and tweaks that will help support your body’s own detoxification processes.
On a daily basis, we are exposed to many external toxins; sugar, refined carbohydrates, processed foods, caffeine and alcohol. The good news? All of these things can be controlled and therefore reduced. There’s no need to banish them entirely, but just reduce your overall intake.
It’s through food though that we can aid our body’s own detoxification system. Raw, unprocessed foods like fruits and vegetables are crucial to our health, providing nutrients, fibre and more. These in turn support your body in the process of transporting toxins and waste products out of the body. So, try swapping some of your snacks to raw alternatives.
Another source of toxins comes from the often unnoticed cleaning products around our homes, and the beauty products we habitually apply to our skin. Try body brushing a few times a week to aid the removal of dead skin cells containing the potentially toxic residues of soaps, skin products and deodorants.
When detoxing, we tend to overlook the internal toxicity we can inflict upon ourselves with negative thinking, excessive technology use, and chronic stress. Try to find ways to unwind and switch off; try to incorporate 20 minutes of relaxation into your daily routine. Yoga, meditation, a quick walk, or just a nice hot bath will give the me time you need. Alongside this, try committing to a daily digital detox, allowing time away from the technology that can often overwhelm our lives. often suffocates our lives in order to reconnect with the world and people around us.
