UK Holidays: Uncovered

by Megan James- Dare

Megan James- Dare

Megan, MV’s very own Marketing Assistant, loves a getaway or two, so who better to scout out the best UK holiday destinations? Whether you’re after sandy beaches, cream teas or medieval castles, the UK has it all, so let this be your ultimate summer guide to the best of British.

Beaches- South Dorset

BEACHES

SOUTH DORSET- DURLEDOOR, LULWORTH

Situated on the dramatic World Heritage Jurassic Coast of England, Durdle Door’s infamous ancient archway is definitely one for the bucket list.

Head to the stunning village of West Lulworth for a bite to eat and some breath-taking views of turquoise water and sandy stretches. When it comes to finding a beach, we recommend choosing between Durdle Door, where you can swim through the enchanted archway or, for a more peaceful and secluded beach, head to Man O’war where you can snorkel, cliff jump (if you dare), and discover the enchanting caves! Catch it on a good day and you’ll feel like you’re swimming the Mediterranean.

Beaches- North Cotwold

 NORTH CORNWALL- ST. IVES

The picturesque fishing and seaside town of St. Ives is home to Lady Basset’s bathing pools and  English author, Virginia Woolf’s, lighthouse, famously known as the inspiration for her story ‘To The Lighthouse’. If that’s not enough to persuade you that this is one to visit, perhaps the stunning beaches and winding cliff-side walkway will.

Plus, all you foodies out there can rejoice – you can indulge in some of the UK’s finest cream teas, pasties and Cornish ice creams whilst wandering the streets of St. Ives.

COUNTRY RETREATS

COTSWOLD BURFORD

Positioned steeply downhill to the River Windrush, Burford is one of the Cotswold’s most popular villages. Despite this, the village is still reminiscent of its wool-era days, and you really can feel its history.

An architect’s dream, Burford continues to showcase its mix of stone cottages, gold-tinged town houses, quintessential tea rooms and ancient pubs. Filled with boutique hotels and antique shops, it’s the perfect pit stop in the middle of rolling countryside.

YORKSHIRE DALES HAWES

In the heart of Wensleydale you’ll find the magical market town of Hawes. This picturesque town set 850 feet above sea water is home to the highest waterfall in England. Meander through the town and you will find an array of antique shops, arts and craft shops and quintessentially English pubs.

Plus, for the cheese connoisseurs, this is paradise! Visit the Wensleydale Creamery and watch the cheesemakers in action and then get the chance to try-before-you-buy!

City Breaks

CITY BREAKS/DAYS OUT

YORK

Steeped in culture and historic wealth, the medieval city of York is one not to be missed off your list. Wander through the largest medieval Cathedral in all of Northern Europe and be prepared to take in some jaw-dropping sights! Why not stop by our York boutique and add some #relaxedglamour to your trip before heading to the town’s medieval walls.

During the summer months, York’s 13th-century castle grounds is the perfect spot for a family picnic.

 EDINBURGH

Edinburgh is the ultimate summer city break with its lively atmosphere and array of famous festivals. Whilst wandering around the city you will discover quirky nooks and steep, narrow paths leading to restaurants, bars and independent shops.

The city is draped across rolling hills which makes for spectacular photos. A foodie’s favourite – Edinburgh is known for its decadent restaurants and vast variety of foods, from traditional Scottish cuisine to authentic Italian. Head there in August to enjoy the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, but book ahead, it gets busy!
