As a PR consultant, shoot producer and mum of two – amongst other things – a wardrobe that works for everything in Katie Maguire’s day is crucial (find her at @themumlife_styled). We caught up with her to see how she styles our spring collection to suit her lifestyle (and the changing weather February brings).
When you get dressed in the morning, do you prioritise style or comfort, or do you think you can you have both?
I think you can definitely have both, especially with the athleisure trend – trainers have never been cooler. You can get some really nice loungewear and activewear you can wear throughout the day – not just to the gym or for lounging around the house. Great quality, classic pieces never go out of fashion, so I’ve long been a fan of Mint Velvet – the quality is always superior to other brands.
Has your personal style changed since becoming a mum?
My style hasn’t really altered since having children, but the way I’ve shopped has changed. I have two girls to dress too now (I was so happy when Mintie launched!), so I have less to spend on myself. I prefer to go for investment pieces that I’ll get a lot of wear out of. I’m much less frivolous.
“I prefer to go for investment pieces that I’ll get a lot of wear out of”.
I love my girls to wear coordinating pieces, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult to compromise with Isabella – now a very opinionated eight year old! Thankfully we always agree when it comes to Mintie; it’s the perfect combination of cute and cool.
How do you fend off ‘the winter style slump’?
Shopping the sales! Investing in the things I’ve had my eye on, then going to the January sales to pick up some key pieces.
How do you transition your wardrobe from winter to spring?
For me, it’s all in the accessories: thinking about transitioning from boots to sandals (weather permitting!) and then adding in a lighter-weight coat or nice blazer. There are some really key pieces that I’ll always start to seek out – a nice skirt, for example. They all just help to lighten up on the layering.
