PEARLS

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • Chalk Pen
  • 13-15 drilled pearls of mixed sizes
  • Thread
  • Needle
  • Scissors

METHOD:

1. Pick out the pearls you’d like to use on your jeans, and lay them out in the desired pattern (you could swap these for studs, pom poms or anything else you can sew on).
2. Take a chalk pen and make a small mark on the jeans to indicate where you’d like to position the pearls.
3. Thread the needle and stitch through the first mark from the inside of the jeans out.
4. Feed the needle and thread through your first pearl and stitch back through the jeans.
5. Repeat a couple of times for the same pearl to secure and tie thread off in the inside of the jeans.
6. Repeat this for each of your pearl marks until complete!

PAINT

  • Paintbrush OR Rubber gloves
  • Container for paint.

METHOD:

1. Ensure the floor area is protected with cardboard or newspaper, then lay your jeans flat on top.
2. Put your rubber gloves on.
3. Pour paint into a container – if you are using two colours, use two separate containers.
4. Dip brush in paint and use a firm flicking motion to ‘splatter’ paint across jeans. Hit against hand for a more varied effect.
5. Alternatively, use gloved hand to flick across more specific areas.
6. Leave the paint to dry for an hour.

FRAYED HEM

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • Scissors
  • Cheese grater
  • Tweezers
  • Ruler

METHOD:

1. Line up each leg and mark across with a chalk pen where you will cut ½ – 1 inch from current hem. Measure with a ruler if you want hem to be very straight.
2. Cut across line.
3. Use a cheese grater along the hemline to start the distressing and roughen the edges.
4. For a deeper fray, pluck and pull at threads with tweezers until desired effect is achieved.
