Cotswolds or California? Blogger, fashion fanatic and Instagram extraordinaire, Kat Farmer (@doesmybumlook40) gives us her style lowdown for summer dressing, home or away.
For a vacation, I love co-ordinates, a skirt and a top that match that you can then mix with other things. So you only have to take a couple things but can make up 5 or 6 different outfits out of them.
I always tend to go monochrome on a staycation holiday, stuff that works with everything and stuff I can wear again. That’s what I like about a staycation is you can actually re-wear your new outfits again.
When you’re packing any suitcase, what five things do you always pack and why?
1. Fake Tan
2. Elizabeth Arden Lip Tint
3. A ‘holiday’ fragrance, either something new or I wear take one that reminds me of that place.
5. Denim Jacket
Where is your favourite place to go on vacation?
Vacation is definitely somewhere warm and sunny. Ideally somewhere with a beach, a kids club, amazing cocktails and wall-to-wall sunshine. Mauritius. Bali. Maldives. I like a long journey so I can watch lots of films on the plane.
“Part of the holiday for me is getting on the plane thinking about what movies I’m going to watch, if I can get three films in then that’s a proper holiday.”
What about staycation?
We go to Suffolk every single year and we’ve been going for the past 13 years. It’s only two hours from home, we know it so well – it’s like a home from home.
What does a staycation mean to you?
A staycation is somewhere there is not too far to travel so that if you did need something, like your coffee machine.
“One of the main reasons I love a staycation is because I can take my coffee machine”
What is the best thing for you about going on holiday?
Coming home, no it’s not. I love the flights, I love an airport. I even get excited about airline food, it’s about the experience. As a working mum, to be able to sit and watch a movie virtually uninterrupted and someone brings you food and drink is BLISS! It’s Heaven.
Do you have any holiday beauty tips?
Instant tan. Things that do a double job, fake tan that’s also a moisturiser. Bronzer too, it doubles up as quite a lot of things. Make up is really minimal and natural. I don’t bother with my hair too – I learnt that years ago, I just tie it up and slick it out of my face or else I look like Aslan (Narnia Character).
If someone offered to buy you a flight to anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I’d really love to go to Hawaii, I’m not sure I’d actually like it when I get there but the idea of it does it for me. I grew up watching Hawaii 5.0, I think it combines that American slightly trash culture that I absolutely love with all the best things of the tropics. Its magnum P.I, it’s just sort of the 70’s in my mind and it looks exquisite.
Do you have any travel tips or like-for-like hacks for when you’re travelling near or far?
Definitely roll don’t fold. Always pack more than you think you’ll need. When you pack, pack outfits, don’t just pack random!
Do you have a travel or wanderlust mantra?
I love to travel to have experiences with the people I’m travelling with. For me it’s more about the people and the experience I have with them than where I’m travelling.
