ON ADVICE SHE WILL BE TAKING IN 2018:

“We have no control over the way we exist in other people’s imaginations and that’s even if we exist at all….I think that’s something that comes with age and perspective”

ON DEALING WITH HER HARDEST BEGINNING:

“Sometimes you’ve got to keep pushing forwards and it’s about silencing your self-doubt. Sometimes what makes me do something is the anxiety about not doing it becomes greater than my anxiety of doing it”

ON GENDER SPLIT:

“I think women are socialised to be very self-sacrificing, you sometimes see ads of mothers doing lots of the caretaking, and that may not reflect reality at all”

ON WHAT SHE’S LEARNED ABOUT HAPPINESS:

“There’s no magic one size fits all solution that fits everyone…it’s helpful to have a catalyst for self-reflection and this helps you think how you could make yourself happier, more productive and more creative”

ON THE MOST HELPFUL THING SHE’S LEARNED:

“Whatever everybody says is true of everybody or most people – what’s true for me? Because in important ways you could be very different in how you ought to be, should be or would be.”

ON WHY NEGATIVE EMOTIONS ARE IMPORTANT:

“Sometimes in life it wouldn’t be appropriate to be happy because there’s a reason not to be, but they can often be very helpful in showing us where there are possibilities for change.”

ON HER BIGGEST TRANSITION IN STYLE CHOICES:

“I think this came from when I decided to dress less for other people and more for what suited me”

ON WHY SHE LOVES A FULL PIECE SWIMSUIT:

“I love a good bikini but they’re not very practical as I love to surf – there’s something very sexy about practicality and functionality in this as you can move in a way that is effective.”

ON WHY GOAL SETTING CAN SOMETIMES WORK AGAINST PEOPLE:

“People make huge life changes and it leads to this common rollercoaster of restricting and binging. It’s better to think of 3 life changes you can make and just do those for 30 days – you will see a change and that will keep you motivated.”
