ON TURNING PASSION INTO A CAREER…

“When I moved to London, I was juggling quite a few jobs, I was always going out for drinks after work, I was eating convenience food all the time and I was feeling a bit terrible. By chance, at the time, Nike had started doing free workout classes, I started going to the yoga and that time on the mat made a big difference to how I was feeling. I realised how much better I felt in myself and it just turned from a passion into a career.”

ON WHAT TO FOCUS YOUR ENERGY ON WHILE EXERCISING…

“You have to stop everything and find out what makes you feel good. I’ve definitely been lighter than what I am now but was I any happier? Definitely not. When you stop letting numbers define how you feel, you really start to feel it and actually that’s what the most important thing is.”

ON THE EFFECT OF WELLNESS AND FITNESS INFLUENCERS…

“As women, readers and consumers of social media we need to make sure we are consuming from places that really fact check and know their sources and really take responsibility for that.”

ON ONE ITEM THAT GIVES HER THE MOST ENERGY…

“A baby pink, maxi, sequin dress from ASOS. I wore this on New Year’s Eve, the year I decided that I really wanted to pursue growing my business. It was very much my ‘yes year’, yes to new opportunities, yes to just going for it. Every time I look at this dress it reminds me of how I felt then. ”

ON SELF-CARE…

“One of the reasons why I wasn’t fulfilled in my old life was that I didn’t care for myself, I was the first person in the office in the morning and the last person to leave in the evening and I was just exhausted. I didn’t stop and was always thinking of what I should be doing next so I stopped and transferred that energy into my business. ”

ON WHERE SHE GOT HER CREATIVE ENERGY FROM…

“When I was 14 years old I was getting ready to go out with a friend of mine, we didn’t even have a beauty store on the island and I wanted to put on a bit of blush so I took a can of Nivea cream and I mixed it up with a lipstick that my mother had and I created my first ever cream blush. It made me think, oh my god, I love cosmetics and that should be something that I look into for my future.”

ON HER GO-TO PRODUCTS FOR RE-ENERGISING…

“For my skin, I would use Dragon’s Blood Sculpting Gel, which is a plumping and energising serum, it adds a bit of volume and it gives you a nice glow. For giving me that eight hour sleep effect, I would use the Banana Low Lighter it’s a yellow cream that you apply under your eyes for a real boost.”

ON THE ENERGY BEHIND HER BOOK…

“The first thing I think of when I think of energy and the relationship to my book, is the energy that the women in my family have. My mum is the kind of person who can fit a couch through a doorway that is 6-inches too small. ”

ON WHAT SHE WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE OF IN POLITICAL CHANGE AND MOVEMENTS FOR WOMEN…

“I want sharing stories, I want changing policies, and I want action. Right now especially, when you’re trying to make political change happen, it’s much easier to talk in absolutes and to talk in black and white and there’s not room for every story. I would like to see more stories.”

ON HER BIGGEST WASTE OF ENERGY…

“For many women, myself included, one of the biggest wastes of energy is jealousy of other women, it is an easy trap to fall into. It’s useful to remind ourselves that actually the women around us who are achieving the things we want to achieve for ourselves are making it easier for us to achieve those things, share a kind of sisterhood with us. ”
