WHAT TO WEAR NOW
Summer Occasions

Occasion dressing can be a drama – is there a dress code? Am I walking on grass / sand / pebbles (i.e. can I wear heels)? Am I expected to change for the evening? Dressing for occasions shouldn’t mean compromising your own personal style, so we’ve put together our favourite looks to suit your style.

TOMBOY

Not into dresses?  Weddings in particular can be a daunting affair if you’re more at home in a pair of jeans and trainers, so the humble jumpsuit comes to the rescue; you couldn’t get a more comfy occasion piece – it’s one thing that needs little to no dressing up.  A bright colour makes a statement (if you so wish) or black is sophisticated and subtle.  If you feel brave, contrast your playsuit with a colour clashing pair of shoes (or opt for flats if you’re not keen on heels).  You can even throw over a denim jacket (although probably not in indigo) for a really relaxed, yet stylish look.

RELAXED AFFAIR

With a shift away from the formal events of the past, a more relaxed look might be on the cards, but you still want to feel dressed up, so why not make your statement with an exciting new print?! A pair of printed trousers is an easy way to freshen up your look for an event. Keep it slick by pairing a darker coloured top with a lighter coloured jacket (black and white always work best) and inject some glamour in by adding some metallic accessories. If it’s laid back, then you might want a fresher approach to your make-up, so try and tinted lip balm instead, and add sunglasses for a cool finish.

GLAMOURPUSS

If you’re erring on the side of glamour, then this is your time of year. All you need is a hot dress and heels, and you’re good to go. If you tend to stick to dark or neutral colours, why not embrace this season’s love of colour and try a shade of orange, pink or lilac (read our 3 ways to we wear lilac here). Pair with some daring accessoriesstatement earrings, fringed shoes and straw bags will keep your occasion look bang up to date. You could even add a leather jacket for a modern addition.

Outfit Three

DAY-TO-NIGHT

There’s nothing quite like being at a relaxed summery day wedding to see the evening arrivals turn up trussed up in their Sunday best. Take a bag that is both practical and stylish (we favour a white rucksack) and use it to store some switchable accessories, and find an outfit that can work both day or night (maxi dresses and jumpsuits work best). For the day, keep it comfortable with some easy sliders (ideal for beaches or fields – anywhere heels are not welcome!) and add a hat to keep you looking and feeling cool. When dusk falls, do a quick switch, slipping on some wedges or heels, a smart jacket and some statement earrings.
