Wardrobe woes are undoubtedly the bane of a woman’s life. Amidst the endless questions of “will I ever wear that again?” and wondering when you last saw your favourite woolly knit, a clothing sort out is always on the cards, but something you never get round to.
We’ve compiled some top tips to help you organise your wardrobe, because with a tidy wardrobe, comes a tidy mind.
1. CLEAR OUT OLD CLOTHES
As difficult as decision making can be when it comes to our clothes, you must be practical. If you genuinely find that you never wear a garment, consider taking it to the charity shop. As cliché as it sounds, sometimes we need to make room for new clothes and our fashion tastes can suddenly change – but that’s ok! Before you make a final call on the matter, perhaps store them away for 6 months. If you no longer pine for them, then you know that you’ve made the right decision.
TOP TIP: Turn the hangers the wrong way round and, when an item is worn, put it back with the hanger the right way. After 6 months, any clothes on hangers the wrong way round can be cleared.
2. CATEGORISE YOUR WARDROBE
Is there anything worse than trying to dig out that crisp white shirt and realising it’s not where you thought it was? Avoid this by categorising your different sections, keeping your party wear, casual staples and work wear separate so that you can easily locate your items and save time.
TOP TIP: If you want to be super organised, you can even colour co-ordinate your sections too. You’ll feel prepared to take on the world (and never be late again)!
3. THE ELASTIC BAND HACK
To avoid watching your beloved boxy knit slide off hangers and end up on the floor, take an elastic band and wrap it round both ends of your hanger. This will prevent the fabric from slipping, and keep your garments in tip top condition.
4. ROLL YOUR CLOTHES
By rolling your clothes you can free up so much space. Avoid rolling any heavily creasing fabrics.
TOP TIP: This actually results in less creases in comparison to folding your clothes, so this habit may be a fashion hack for life.
5. PACK AWAY OUT OF SEASON CLOTHES
Goodbyes aren’t forever where our wardrobe is concerned – store wintery knits and coats away during the summer months, and summer dresses and beach attire away during the winter. In addition to allowing more room, you’ll have a clearer and more precise idea of the appropriate clothes for that season.
